Sperm storage
I admit I know nothing about it. Here is my thinking- DH is looking into having a vasectomy, because of my health issues (and I do not do well with hormonal BC or the IUD I tried) that need resolved I am not sure there is a possibility right now of ever having more children. I was thinking it might be wise to store some just in case there is point down the line (many years from now) where I want to risk trying. While they say it can be reversed, I was thinking about storage just in case, and I have heard of lots of people do insemination at home (also know nothing about that). Anyone know anything about this storage issue and how you go about it?
I'm going out on a limb here, so please forgive me if I'm being redundant. I had a copper IUD in place for ten years. When it was time to replace it I went with Mirena. Unfortunately Mirena caused horrible hormonal side effects so I had it removed. Now that I don't want any more children I had another copper IUD put in. I didn't know if you were referring to the hormones in Mirena causing issues, or just the IUD itself. I just wanted you to know that there are IUDs that do not come with hormones.

I had problems with the hormones in BC pills, and I had Mirena and expelled it and had horrible hormonal issues with it while it was in (I bleed for extended time-beyond what they considered adjustment). I had considered the other IUD but because I expelled the first- wasnt sure if the copper one would be any better and I feel like my body has been through enough (selfish I know).
This may seem rude but you did post a couple months ago.....about how overwhelmed you were with everything and your older 2 being special needs. You said you were eating out a lot because of your work schedule and families inability to help with household chores....so why don't you just focus on the four kids you have now? I know the everyday struggles you must have with your older 2, and that is just because I have 1 special needs kid. I deliberately used birth control for the past 13years because I wanted to be the best mother I could to HER, and also take my own stress level and emotional health into consideration. This one will be my last, because I don't want to put myself on overload (and also to be fair to the one that is already here).
Your right I do have a ton on my plate including all of my recent health issues, my financial responsibilities (with job stresses), 2 children who have special needs, a DH that has so many health issues, I can not even list them. So in order to be able to focus on me and my current family- I am being responsible by not having any unplanned pregnancies. Facts- can't do hormonal BC and my IUD didn't work for me. I won't sign up to be a nun and condoms- well whatever the case (unknown hole, rip, etc) that is how I have my youngest. So- I just wanted to keep options open in the distance in case my health stabilizes and when my older children (who do have special needs) move to their own independence- as I believe at some point they will be able to. I'm only in my 30's and know life changes to fast to put all your eggs in one basket. I've done a lot of 'housekeeping' in the last several months- I guess this post didn't come off right---but I just wanted to plan in case there is a chance that I may be in a place where more children are an option because right now I am focused on us and me.
Hi Jenn. The way to store DH's goods is through a sperm bank with cryogenic freezing. it is costly. And about home inseminations... i'm the queen of that... only because we're a lesbian couple. But you cannot do home inseminations with frozen sperm. The labs will need to "defrost" the frozen sperm before you can use it. If you try to defrost the sperm at home, you will significantly kill off most if not all of the live spermies. So frozen sperm = doc office inseminations. And reading what Michelle wrote... you might reeeeeeeeeally want to think more about this before taking any action (either freezing or snipping DH.) Good luck
